I am an amatuer user. I did the disk cleanup and as it was running a message
came up saying "Windows File Protection, insert CD from original program"
Then it gave me anumber of a CD to enter but I do not know what CD it is.
It's some backup CD but for what? Can you help? When I say to cancel it
says that original version will not be restored and that Windows will have
stability issues.

It's most likely referring to the original Windows XP install disc.

Note that if your system came with a "restore" CD, not a bootable version
of the XP install disc, you won't be able to use that disc for this feature
and should just cancel.
