file protection prompt

I was trying to do my disk cleanup. During the process, I received a window
that said, "Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been
replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must
restore the original versions of these files. Insert your ___ now." There is
a blank. It doesn't tell me what to insert. I'm afraid to put in my recovery
disk because it will erase everything. Help?

When it makes that request, it wants the Windows XP CD that(usually)
comes with your system, or the retail XP CD you bought.

If the progress bar on that dialog advances any when you press 'retry' dozens
of times, you can just keep doing that till it completes.

You do know of course that very, very few people n a newsgroup are going
to bother going through a URL have to setup a sign-in just to say
whether your post was any help or not, right?

And besides, all your response did for me was make me go "Huh? What's
that about?". No explanation, nothing.

I am having the same problem. None of the suggestions helped. When I put in
the WinXP cd I get an error message telling me that it is the wrong disc.
Help.
