Setup.exe doesn't work - why?

Hans Näslund

I am having a problem with setup.exe, which means that there a number of
programmes that I cannot install on my computer (some of which I would need
badly).

What happens is that setup.exe starts, and I get the message that setup.exe
is preparing the InstallShield Wizard - but then it closes down and nothing
happens. No error message appears.

I have asked this question a couple of times before, without responses. Is
thjere really no body who has a clue?

Which verson of Windows? Which program(s) are you trying to install?

Have you got a virus checker enabled while trying to install the
product? I've had this in the past where Norton Anti-virus was trying
to check all files while the setup program tried to install them.

I have Windows 2000 Professional. So far, this has happened with Adobe
Acrobat 5.0, WS_FTP Pro 8.0.2, and a German-English technical dictionary.

I hev tried deactivating Norton Anti-Virus, and also shutting down all
running programs (with the help of End It All). That did not help.

This started after I had to reinstall Windows after a disk crash, which
meant that I had to get a new hard disk. I guess there is something in my
system that prevents startup.exe and InstgallShield to work properly - but
the strange thing is that startup.exe works fine when installing other
programs.
