setup detected a newer version

At one point in time I thought that repairing or reinstalling Internet Explorer was a problem of mine. I actually had the suggestion from the newsgroup here. Well i downloaded the internet explorer setup file and I tried to run it and i get the following

' Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system.
Setup cannot continue. '

I have gone in and changed the registry key many many times.........
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

sInstalled (REG_DWORD) modified the value to 0 from 1

as instructed by the knowlege base article

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

but every time i restart my windows XP-SP2 during the start up process i believe the operating system keeps trying to reinstall Internet Explorer as it takes this long long time to start and then the same message appears

' Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system.
Setup cannot continue. '

Once i click okay well it finishes the restart or start up process and it is okay. Does anyone know how i can get this reinstallation to stop running at start up.??????????

By the way reinstalling internet explorer was not the cure of my original problem, i did find the fix to my font and HTML problem in outlook express....

I would check the Startup tab of msconfig (Start / Run / type
msconfig) to see if there is any "setup" or "install" file there
referencing IE.

Yes, thank you george that has stopped it from running at start up but i was
wondering if there was a way to get rid of it from the registry all
together.

Bob,

If you want to delete the disabled Startup entry in the Registry,
I believe it is under:

HKLM \ Software \ Microsoft \ Shared Tools \ MSConfig \ startupreg
