Cannot install Internet Explorer 6

After wiping my hard disk clean and reinstalling XP, I find I can't reinstall
Internet Explorer 6. "Setup has detected a newer version of Internet
Explorer already installed on this system." Setup cannot proceed. I did a
Search and can't find any version of Explorer 6 on my system. Help!

Hi VerLynn :)

I'm sorry, but...you have me a bit confused. You say that you have
installed XP on a clean hard drive, and are trying to install IE6? IE6 is a
core part of the XP program, thus, if you have installed XP, IE 6 will also
be installed with that installation. That may be why you are getting the
error you are. Have you tried to open IE yet? Is there an Icon on your
desktop or the Start menu for it, The usual blue E? Internet Explorer will
not show up in the Add/Remove Programs as it has with previous versions of
Windows, as it is a part of the XP program itself, not a separate program as
before. That may be why you can't see it there if that is where you are
looking. I have XP Pro, and I do see Internet Explorer in the Program Files
list. Do you not see it there? Do you have XP Home Edition or the XP
Professional version

Hope this helps.

Jan :)

Reinstalling WinXP also reinstalls IE6, VerLynn.

Why do you think you need to reinstall IE? Are you running WinXP SP2?
