My computer turns on everytime i ring the phone line, i
have windows xp home edition. Could it be a setting???

In your BIOS you are needing to uncheck Wake on Lan or something similar.

Check BIOS settings for "wake" settings: Wake on LAN, Wake on Ring, Wake on
Alarm, etc.
 
Hi,

Most probably this happens when the modem device is allowed to bring the
computer out of standby. To prevent this from happening, open up the device
manager (start >> Run DEVMGMT.MSC) and right click on the modem entry and
select properties. Flip to the power management tab and uncheck 'Allow this
device to bring the computer out of standby' OK your way out.
