Hi All,

Hope I have come to the right newsgroup.
I have 4x XP machines, 1 only 3 months old.
In all cases when I plug in my Skype phone, it pops up a information box
saying "This USB device can preform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed
USB 2 port".
I was told that the USB 2 ports may be set to "Full Speed" and not "High
Speed".
I have checked in the BIOS and the hardware settings, and so far I have not
found anything.
I know all the USB ports are USB 2, so I am now at a loss as to how to find
and fix this problem.

Can anyone please help.

Regards

Kevin.

What version of XP are you running? Sounds to me like it doesn't have the
USB2 drivers installed and so, your ports are running as usb1 for now. XP
SP1 began the rollout for usb2 drivers so your windows version should be at
least sp1

Hi Gordon,

I am running SP2, my laptop is only 3 months old, also with SP2 installed,
and it says the same thing.

The install disc says it's XP, SP2

So I believe it should be okay.

Thanks Kevin.

Kevin,
Could be just a warning message that doesn't really pertain since you
already have the high speed usb2 drivers installed then. As far as I've
been able to see, there is no settings which change the data speed on usb
devices and the driver tabs for each usb root hub only shows the power
allocation and bandwidth usage for each device connected to that root port.

Gordon,

That's all the information I get as well, so, yes it must be working right,
and only a message.
Thanks for your assistance.

Kevin.

Sorry, you will just have to check Bios a little harder - it definately is there
