Setting up windows email

Billie

I want to set up my windows email, but I'm a little confused. Is the windows
program simply for downloading emails from my current email provider, whom I
have a hotmail account through, or is it for setting up a new and
different/seperate email account?

So when the program prompts me for my "email" address should I type in my
existing hotmail account?

Windows Mail is a program for downloading email messages or newsgroup posts.
Since it cannot access webmail accounts it was designed (4 years ago) to
reject Hotmail addresses.
However, you can now access Hotmail accounts via POP3.
the required settings are here... try 587 for the Outgoing port...

since WM is coded to reject Hotmail addresses, you'll have to use a fake
email address while setting it up, then change it to your correct address
later.

With the newer Windows Live Mail, you can access the Hotmail/Live account
via DeltaSync (mail is kept on the server).

Do you get an error message when you try to send? If so,
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

Hi,
Conflict on 2 comuters (Vista) with same setup.
On one computer when I open Window Mail will empty my inbox in AT@T Yahoo
mail.I use both mail providers.
On the other computer window mail has no affect on my other provider.
I want ot maintain each mail provider - each showing eamils received.

I am sure I set up both windows mail accounts the same - so why does one
computer clear the other email for yahool mail and not the other??

Thanks

Tools>Accounts>select your account>properties>advanced tab>select leave a
copy of all messages on the server, do this on both mail programs.

Set one of them to delete messages from the server after a sensible number
of days, or your online mailbox will fill up and subsequently reject new
mail.
