Setting up Asian IME and characters support in MS Works and XP MC?

Hi.

I am helping someone to set up his new Windows XP Media Center (with all
updates; Toshiba OEM) to support Asian IME and characters. I installed
IME stuff and fonts/characters, and tested Chinese, Japanese, and Korean
(East Asian characters) files in Internet Explorer v6.0 SP1 (all
updates). I can see the characters perfectly on Web sites.

Now, the problem is using Wordpad, MS Works' Word Processor, etc. We
select Chinese in Language Bar and a Chinese font name (MingLiu) or
something. Typing in specific words do not show Chinese fonts like in
Windows 2000 SP4 and with Office 2002/XP. Does Works does not come with
this feature or did I miss something?

Thank you in advance. :)

Is it really required to check mark "Apply all settings to the current
user account and to the default user profile." if there is only one XP
account (excluding default administrator account)?

OK I did everything as noted in the instructions including "Apply all
settings to the current user account and to the default user profile."
He still can't reproduce the Asian texts.

Now what?

Then I for one don't know what's wrong.

Oh well. Thanks anyways. Does anyone know? Or does this require MS
Office? I was able to do it easily with MS Office 2000 (installed its
asian stuff too) and Windows 2000 a few months ago. I didn't see MS
Works' help mention anything about Asian characters.
