Setting up a Network & ADSL

I have 2 computers in the same room. Both used to have Windows 98SE but one Hard Drive failed so I took the opportunity of purchasing XP Home to put on the new Drive. Both were networked through an ADSL Router - neither was a host and both could access the net independently
I want to replicate this now. However, I cannot get them to network even though all the hardware remains the same. For specific reasons I still want both machines to have independent access to the web - i.e. I don't always want them both turned on
Can anyone tell me how to do this as XP seems only to allow for 1 computer to be a host.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on both computers, and tell it that they
connect to the Internet through a residential gateway (ADSL router):
