Home Network problem

P

Pat Garard

G'Day All,

I have set up a home network.

DHCP Host is a Laptop c/w (ADSL/USB) Internet Access and attached, shared
Printer.

Client is a desktop directly connected to Host with Ethernet cross-over
cable (RJ45).

Since Host has no Floppy, Client was set up using original (pre SP1) Windows
XP CD.

Problem:
Both IP addresses look Ok (ipconfig/all)
Host can 'see' both itself and Client (with Workgroup name correct on
both).
Client, although accessing the Internet ok, throws 'Access denied' to
Administrator when trying to 'Add Printer'!!

Any assistance much appreciated.

Hi
You do not need any disk.
Set the sharing on both computers, take care that the Firewall does not
block file and printer sharing.
In general.
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.
