setting the default screen resolution on XP

Is there any way of changing the XP default resolution
from 800*600. I want something else, say 1024*768.

Can this be changed in the registry??

I need to do this, as standard users in the company do not
have the rights to change screen resolution. This is
enforced using NT4 domain controller policies.

You could follow the IT adage that says "It's easier to ask for
forgiveness, than to get permission." But, If they (IT) have the
resolution locked down, I would image Registry editing is also
on the lock out list as well. Just pick up the phone and explain
your situation. Unless your operations are contracted out, the
local IT folks may help. If your company uses IBM Global
Services or some other "Put-in-a-Ticket" shop, learn to like
800-by-600 or buy the in-house IT Mgr. a nice lunch.

Apologies for not being more specific

I work in the IT department, I want to change the default
resolution, so I dont have to give end users the right to
change the screen resolution.

I'm just curious. What is gained by not allowing them to change the screen
resolution? Why not let them change it. If it keeps them happy, what harm
could come? Some people have better or worse eyes and need to adjust screen
resolution and refresh rate to keep their eyes comfortable (and healthy).
Comfortable vision is essential to eliminate eye strain and if it keeps them
happy, then they are generally more productive. I run my resolution on an
18" monitor at 1280 x 1024. Anything less literally drives me crazy because
I don't have enough desktop space. I then put my icon size at 48
pixels(using style xp), so I have a huge desktop space with nice big icons
and words at normal 96dpi. I the point is, this is the way I like it, why
not let them set the personal computer resolution the way they like it. Just
wondering here, that's all.
(btw - I let my users set wallpaper, screen savers, themes, colors,
resolution, refresh rates, and dpi and icon sizes)

800x600 seems very low as a standard these days, but
If it is company policy you had better go along with it until you can
argue them into a change.
