setting IE6.0 as default (instead of AOL)

I currently have AOL 8.0 setup as my default browser, even
though AOL 9.0 is now installed. However, I will be
getting rid of AOL soon and would like to make IE my
default browser. Currently, when I click on a link in
Outlook Express, it automatically opens up AOL, connects
me, and then it's hit or miss whether the page will
actually display properly. ... I've gone in to file
options and tried changing all the "html" extensions to
open with IE, but that hasn't resolved the problem...

Need your help soon, please!!!

I'm pretty sure this will work for you
Open Internet Explorer
On the top toolbar, select Tools >> Internet Options
Click the "Programs" tab
Place a check mark in the box: "Internet Explorer should
check to see whether it is the default browser"
Click OK and close Internet Explorer
Next reopen Internet Explorer, a box will appear saying
"Internet Explorer is no longer your default browser, would
you like to make it your default?"
Click Yes

Hmm... In Win 98 I don't have the "set program access &
defaults" option. ... This problem, however, is occurring
on my parents' computer, and they have WinME. Is that
option listed on ME? I'm heading over there shortly to try
to solve this for them. Will look for any other info you
can provide... And thanks! :)

Argh.... At first I thought -- "By gosh, he's got it!" ...
But when I called my dad and had him try it, it doesn't
solve the problem. IE opens up without asking the default
question... and when he clicks a link in outlook express,
it still opens AOL 8.0... *sigh* .... Any other
suggestions, other than completely uninstalling AOL
(they're still using it for one more month)? :-( I'm
starting to lose my mind over this. It should be soooo
simple!
