Set Up/Boot Up

My computer with WindowsXP became infected. I (perhaps
naively) tried do a first level intall of XP. That
process is corrupted. The computer won't let me boot as
it goes directly to the stall segment on the installation
process. I've tried Safe mode but after that I receive
the same request for the installation CD. I need to get
to where I can install patches and virus cleanups. Any
suggestions would be appreciated
