Lisa

I had two drives C:\ & D:\ on the HP PC. Everytime when I turn it on
that appeared message : "Norton Antivirus can't protect C:\ Access
denied" .

So I think the C drive was infected by virus and I try to re-format the

C:\ to install a new winXP on it.

With other PC at home, it's simple -just change the boot setting in
bios and when the message " "press any key to boot from CD..." appeared
- It will boot from winxp CD, then I can delate partition and format
the c drive...

But in this HP pc I just can't delate the partition in C:\ and when I
intalled a new winXP (not repaired) in windows, the above message still

there!

Then I intalled the Winxp on D:\. and installed partitionMagic 8 on
D:\. Through partitionmagic 8, I delate the C:\ and re-format it. after

that I can't boot!

I tried to boot from a window 98 boot disk, but fdisk didn't reconize
the NTAS(can't delate the partition), and the C:\ only had 8M, it
couldn't
install a window98 on it.

Please help me!!!

Many Thanks and regards,

Lisa

Lisa, best to Start Over. Using Partition Magic delete all partitions.
Then boot from your WinXP CD and create a new
C: partition and if so desired a D: partition. Then reinstall XP on C:
When you deleted and formated the C: partition you
probably also deleted the required files needed to boot XP. They are
ntldr, boot.ini and ntdetect.com.

Hi Rich,
Thanks for your reply. the wose thing is I couldn't boot now in anyway.
- I couldn't boot from WinXP Cd, and couldn't boot from partition magic
rescue disk...

I found the "ntdetect.com" in other PC, but I couldn't find the "ntldr,
boot.ini". Can I copy those files to a disk then use it to boot the HP
PC?

Thanks and regards,
Lisa

Lisa, do you have the cdrom drive selected as first boot device in the
Bios? HP Computers usually have a Recovery Disk
or Partition with a fresh image of WinXP that can be used to restore your
system. Is this true for your computer?

Rich, I do have the cdrom drive and it has been selected as first boot
device in the bios already. I've also get a WinXP cdrom.
but when I turn on the pc, it seems doesn't go throught cdrom, and the
message "press any key to boot from CD..." never appeared.

Lisa, do you have a retail version of WinXP? If yes, and your cdrom
drive is selected as first boot device and working
properly then you should be able to boot from the CD.
