XP Won't Boot

B

Billy D.

My computer was working fine and I think a virus or malware infected my hard
drive and now computer will only show a blank black screen and will not boot
up fully, only shows single curser in the upper left hand corner. I have
tried to use a boot cd, boot disc, the install disc, and tried to do a new
install, but nothing works. The system is a Dell Optiplex GX260, with a 2.0
ghz P4 processor bought used, but has new hard drive after original one
crashed and was working fine before. Trying to install purchased retail copy
of XP Pro, but will not complete boot up. When trying to reinstall I am
prompted to reboot after using start up discs and when it does comes back to
blank black screen with single curser.
Please help!!!!

1st chk youre BIOS settings, make the cdrom with xp 1st boot device,hd 2nd.
Also,if that still fails, download the hd MS-DOS check utility, get from the hd
mfg web site, usually its for a floppy disk, boot pc to floppy, run the hd
tests.
Also,a true xp cd retail copy wont prompt you for any other cds when booting
to xp cd.
