services not running?!?!

Running Windows XP Pro and it appears as though some of the services are not
running. When I boot windows it tells me that some network services are not
turned on. I connect to a network through router ... I have internet and
email but I cannot see my network. I attempted to uninstall a program and it
told me that windows installer was not running. If I open device manager it
is a blank screen, and when trying to view event manager I receive error
messages stating the service is not available. Don't know what I might have
done to make this happen, but does anyone have a clue as to how I might
correct it? Thanks.

Hi kah,

Although I don't have your info. right off, PLEASE dismiss, ignore, and keep
your distance from Andrew E. He's kind of like a resident troll, who only
appears to hand out correct and useful advice "quite by accident". The
remainder (and majority) of the time, he's incorrect at best, and
dangerously wrong at worst.
