Service Pack 2 stops installing

When trying to install Windows XP Service Pack 2 it stops at the point of
"Creating Restore Point". Drops the Network Connection and logs off the
present user. Checked the Control Panel, Add Remove Programs and it shows
only 20.18 MB for Windows XP Service Pack 2. What do I need to do to get
Service Pack 2 to install completely. Thanks....

Make sure that your system is in a good condition, and then disable and
enable System Restore to remove old corrupted Restore Points.
Create one test Restore Point manually to make sure that your System Restore
works.

Get SP2 on CD or download it manually as a single file (~270 MB). See here

Thanks for your reply. This suggestion didn't fix the problem. I did a Disk
Cleanup, Full Defrag and then Turned off System Restore which deleted all
previous Restore points. I then did a Reboot and uncheck System Restore. I
manually Created a New Restore Point. I then ran the Windows XP Service Pack
2 which I download called WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe . Same problem: When
trying to install Windows XP Service Pack 2 it stops at the point of
"Creating Restore Point". Drops the Network Connection and logs off the
present user. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Make sure you have a suffient amount of available space on
C. This SP needs around 1.5 MBs of free space to install

Hi Terri; thanks for the reply. Yes, there is 23.1GB of free space. This is
not a problem....

Did that... Turned off System Restore and Windows XP Service Pack still trys
to Create Retsore Point and then disconnects from the Network and logs off
the User. Did work, any other sugestions....

Did Not Work....

You aren't perhaps trying to put SP2 on after doing a "standby" rather
than a full shutdown of your system are you? I've seen that make a
difference in machines -- at least when it comes to SP2.
