Problems installing Service Pack 2

I am having a problem installing Service Pack 2. Halfway through it says it
couldn't find a file called moviemk.chm. It gave me the option of finding it
myself and opened a window pointing to the directory where it had expected to
find the file. But the file was there where it was supposed to be - for some
reason, the Service Pack installation program couldn't see it.
I found that I could move offending file with Windows Explorer. So I
dragged it to my desktop and told the program to look there. This seemed to
work and the program finished the installation OK, except that when I chose
the 'restart now' option the machine hung. I switched off and restarted it.
It went through its 'please wait' thing and then stopped with a black screen
with just the egg timer showing. I waited what seemed like ages, but it
never came back and the machine was not making any disc noises. After about
fifteen minutes I switched it off again and restarted. This time it
restarted OK with no 'please wait' at all! It has worked fine since but when
I loaded the driver for my scanner from disc, I had to find a load of files
that were not where they were supposed to be. It loaded OK eventually, but
it suggests that Service Pack 2 is still not installed properly. Can anyone
help please.

Hi Rob,

How old is your Hard Drive? Your Hard Drive may be going bad.

Or, if your Data Files are located off the Hard Drive and you can back
up your other files you want, you might be better off to do a reformat and
reinstall of the operating system. Install all the Windows Hotfixes and
optional Software programs including Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 before you
apply Service Pack 3 because that Framework 3.0 does not want to install in
Service Pack 3 without giving you a lot of problems.

From my experiences installing it. Installs under Service Pack 2 without
problems.
