Service pack 2 sluggishness

I just installed service pack 2 yesterday, and everything on my
computer is sluggish. When I start it up it takes quite a bit longer
to go to the desktop from the xp "welcome" screen. Also using
different programs it seems to take a while to load them. I also have
a 3MB internet connection and it loads like a 56k modem. Any help?
