Service pack 2 crashing

i just restored this computer using recovery. i try to install wl messenger,
but it requires me to get sp2. well i did that. but everytime i install it
window's keeps freezing on the start up screen.( the one that sez XP and has
the small bar loading.)
help?
ps. am using H.E.
 
Windows messenger gets "enabled" in add/remove windows components,
it doesnt need SP2.Either way,if SP2 did install,at pc start,tap the F8
key,select
safe mode,enter as administrator,go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:CHKDSK C: /F
Agree to restart,type:EXIT Restart pc.If you cant get that far,boot to xp
cd,
select recovery console,select 1 For C: Press enter for password,type:
CHKDSK C: /R Once thru,type:EXIT Let xp start-up.Also,next time SP2 gets
installed,have the 1st cmd from above already entered before restart.
 
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?
