Hi
Can any body help.....

I have recently had a problem with my system and I had to
reformat the hard disk and install every thing again. I
installed windows XP - Pro successfully and I tried to
install Service Pack 1a. After unpacking the file it came
back with following error:
"Service Pack 1 Setup cannot update a checked (debug)
system with a free (retail) version of service Pack 1 or
vice versa".
Does any body know what this means. Please note my
Windows XP-Pro is a legit version.
Regards,

Frank.

Hello
Did you install XP from a CD that already includes SP1. Are you trying to
download SP1 from the Windows Update site or the Downloads site.

Visit Windows Update Site and it will scan your system for the necessary
updates.

Hi
Thanks for your response. I am using dialup to connect to
internet and I am getting a lot of problems installing
dialup manager. I was advised to install service pack 1a,
I will be able to install dialup.
I have down loaded the service pack 1a from Microsoft web
site and installed it on a disk. It is actually two
executable files, one unpack the whole 148 MB of the
service pack and the other one install it.
I have installed XP-professional from Microsoft disk and
trying to install service pack from the disk I have
created from down load. Since I have no dialup, I can not
connect to internet, as a result this is the only
solution.
Any advise on how I can get round this error message.
Many thanks for your assistance.
Best regards,

Frank.
