WinXP Service pack 1a

I am unable to install WINXP Service pack 1a, at the end
of the installation a window pops up stating "ACCESS
DENIED" I have tried with administration rights and by
adding administrator in the regedit special accounts files
with no success, my latest attempt has required that I run
the XP Repair disk which I 've tried but can only get to
the part where it requires information from the
instruction book that I seem to have lost or missplaced,
what can I do to install this pack? Thank you.
