service pack 1

Service pack 1 on my computer keeps forcing my computer
to shut down randomly and prevents me from downloading
automatic updates. So, when i try and download the
automatic update for service pack 1, it prevents me from
downloading it. Have tried at least 6 times... what else
can i do?

How do you know it is Service pack 1?
What exactly is happening?
It there is a message, exactly what is it?
