server unexpectedly closed the connection

I've been having all sorts of trouble publishing my website with FR 2002 to
my GoDaddy account.

I had the FP extensions reloaded again from scratch. Once that was
accomplished I fired up FP 2002 and had it recalculate all the hyperlinks.
Then I instructed it to publish the whole website again. I selected the
option to publish "All pages, overwriting pages already on destination". FP
connected to the host and created all the directories first without error.
Once that was done it started to copy the actual files. It copied
approximately 125 files in less than 45 seconds before I again received the
dreaded "The server unexpectedly closed the connection" message.

What's really frustrating is when this happens I lose all connectivity to my
hosting account from MY MACHINE ONLY! It's like it locks up any and all
traffic between my local machine and the host. I can't FTP to it, I can't hit
it using IE 6.0 via HTTP, nor can FP reach it either. I have to wait 10 to 15
minutes before the connection clears itself up again. In the meantime I can
hit ANY other website or FTP to any other account, only the connection
between my PC and the my host gets hosed up. The thing is, everyone else can
still view and see my domain name while I can not! You see I tested this by
using a web based anonymous web browser. Once my connection gets hosed during
the publishing process with FP and I can't see the website any longer, if I
log into an anonymous website browser I can get to and view my site just
fine!?

So is it possible FP is selectively hosing up the connection between my PC
and my host when it errors like this? It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have
to wait 15 minutes before I can attempt to publish again where it left off
previously...

I'm about at wits end here folks.... suggestions please!

Sound like you either have a issue with your ISP's internet connection or GoDaddy has a problem with
the server hosting your account.

remains. In fact I just had them delete my hosting account completely and
then re-creat a new account for me. Once that was done I had the FP extension
re-instralled and I again attempted tp publish my website. Yet again it
created all the directories without any problem, but once it came tiome to
start upload the .gif's, .jpg's, and .js files it quit after a minute or so.
Again this locked up my connection to my NEW HOSTING ACCOUNT! I can ping my
domain, I can trace route to the domain. I just can't hit the http port 80
that front page uses nor can I connect to FTP port 21! Of course if I wait 15
minutes this condition will clear up.

I've attempted to upload my website from a differnt computer on a different
ISP and I have the SAME PROBLEM!

Everything now points to some sort of corrupted file within my FP web
folder!!!! Just so you know, the upload does not stall on any particular
file. The upload just stalls out after 30-60 seconds. Is there ANYTHING or
ANY file within the folder where FP keeps my website I can look at or reset?
The only common denominator in this problem is my website files or their
internal configurations. The website looks, runs, and operates inside of FP
just fine. All links and java script work great. I have no forms, no
databases, absolutely nothing advanced within my website at all. Now there
ARE a lot of files that make up my website. When I right click on the FP
folder that holds my website and request it's properties it reports the
following:
Size: 522 MB
Size on disk: 625 MB
Contains: 40,316 Files 3,824 Folders.

Please, please someone help me figure out why this is happening...

- any files over 1 MB in size
- if you have any thumbs.db in your local site
- or your AV is blocking you

1. Out of the 40,000 files that comprise my website only three are in excess
of 1mb in size. FP hasn't made it to the local folder where thesefiles are
contained as of yet during the publishing process.

2. No thumbs.db in any folders locally or on host.

3. I've shut down my AV completely and it doesn't make a difference. File
transfer just stops after 30-60 seconds.

It doesn't need to "get to" the large file
(since it runs a check of all files before it starts publishing)
- try deleting them of moving them all to a folder (say media) that you convert to a subweb

PS
a 522MB 40,000+ file web "screams" of needing conversion to either
- a Database driven site w/ less pages
- or a series of much smaller subwebs

Okay... removing the three files which were over 1mb in size made no
difference and the uploading of files by FP is still stalling out after 30 or
so seconds and then reporting the server closed the connection. GoDaddy
states their log files do not reflect any problems, the FP extensions are
installed correctly, and they have absolutely no time-out of any type set.
They host literally 1000’s of FP created websites and no one else is
reporting this problem.

Since I'm just a beginner at FP with no training at all I guess I'm at FP
2002's mercy! The webpage I've built is used to share 5000+ pictures my
father has taken over a 30-year span. The pictures are broken down by decade,
then year, then series. Each series is displayed in its own frame as a java
scripted photo gallery slideshow created by FP. I was a little miffed myself
at the way FP would include a separate set of navigation buttons for each and
every slideshow I created. If you do a search of my web folder you'll see the
same next.gif file is used over 4263 times! Since there are 4 separate nav
buttons that’s 12000+ .gif’s.

Once I get all of the files published (at this rate it might be done by
Christmas) feel free to look at my amateurish attempt at website creation and
make suggestions.

I am scheduled to take a Frontpage class at the New Horizons technical
center this coming February, but it's only a basic class and I doubt they'll
delve into database driven website creation...

so seconds and then reporting the server closed the connection. GoDaddy
states their log files do not reflect any problems, the FP extensions are
installed correctly, and they have absolutely no time-out of any type set.
They host literally 1000's of FP created websites and no one else is
reporting this problem.

Since I'm just a beginner at FP with no training at all I guess I'm at FP
2002's mercy! The webpage I've built is used to share 5000+ pictures my
father has taken over a 30-year span. The pictures are broken down by decade,
then year, then series. Each series is displayed in its own frame as a java
scripted photo gallery slideshow created by FP. I was a little miffed myself
at the way FP would include a separate set of navigation buttons for each and
every slideshow I created. If you do a search of my web folder you'll see the
same next.gif file is used over 4263 times! Since there are 4 separate nav
buttons that's 12000+ .gif's.

Once I get all of the files published (at this rate it might be done by
Christmas) feel free to look at my amateurish attempt at website creation and
make suggestions.

I am scheduled to take a Frontpage class at the New Horizons technical
center this coming February, but it's only a basic class and I doubt they'll
delve into database driven website creation...

It doesn't need to "get to" the large file
(since it runs a check of all files before it starts publishing)
- try deleting them of moving them all to a folder (say media) that you convert to a subweb

PS
a 522MB 40,000+ file web "screams" of needing conversion to either
- a Database driven site w/ less pages
- or a series of much smaller subwebs

I'm having exactly the same problem. I created my hosting account with
them around Nov 7th. I try to upload files and it hangs. Also other
people have been telling me when they try to download large video files
I have (about 75mb) the download stalls out at around 3-11%. Seems like
they're hosting server is messed up. they told me i could pay 35/month
for a virtual dedicated account. Think i will look elsewhere for
hosting.

We are having the exact same issues with their servers!! I was
searching to see if there are additional people with the same problems
for some time now, and since I was never able to find anyone with the
same issues I was sure this issue is something on our side.

In addition, calling their support team several times now, they keep
saying this is an issue from our side (not very helpful of them...).
Since we serve about 50,000 users, we keep getting reports from all
around the world from users reporting these issues, so their reply was
useless and doesn't make much sense anyway.

We've tested this issue a bit and logged it from our side and it seems
that at some point their server simply ignores the TCP reply from our
side that states that we received the last package and then the
download simply freeze. Since their technical support team insists that
it is working for them, and as they told me "If it is working for us
there isn't much we will be able to do to solve it..." I guess this is
time to move on...

Is there anyone here that can commend a different good and stable
company? How are Network Solutions servers?

I too have this problem however I have isolated it to the CoOntent Filter
that was installed at work. At home I do not have a Content Filter and am
able to publish updates without a problem. I had our ISP disable the content
filter for a test and everything was fine too. So we are trying to work this
out since it seems that the content filter uses a proxy server and this
causes a problem.
