server time out

I am publishing a FrontPage web from a remote server to my local HD. I have successfully done so for the root web and several subwebs, but at some point during the publishing process, I get a message

The server "" timed out. The current request did not complete successfully.

How do I fix this?

If FP 2003. did you try to drag and drop the remaining subwebs into the
local site.?

Publish the rootweb and subwebs independent of each other.

I would really like to use the functionality of publishing root web and subwebs at once, since, quite frankly, I cannot always remember which subwebs I changed from other local servers.

Any idea how to fix the time-out problem?

Some times that is your only option, their is nothing in FP to set or fix..

Issues that effect this can be related to the amount of internet traffic, the load on the hosting
server, your ISP, your connection, your PC, the amount of free memory, etc.

Make sure that you regularly clear the *.web from the FP cache folder.

HI! does it always hang at the same file? the reason why I ask this question
is I am wondering if its really a question amount of files meaning (
connection length) or is it
due to a specific file or directory.

one thing I would try to narrow it down is to take any large file ( one that
is as large in size as your site is in total or almost is ( depending on
available disk space )) and then put it in the same folder as one of the
other files that your did successfully transferred. and then begin to
transfer it.) if it hangs then again then it probably is what Thomas
suggested in the other replies that he gave you. but if it does transfer
over and over and then its not the length but probably something else like a
corrupted file or a file with bad or changed permissions.you said it
downloaded some of the content right? try and see which ones download and
which will not.

then save those dir or subwebs in another place in your harddisk with
Windows explorer. then go back to FP delete those files and or subwebs of
your local and remote. close FP then clear the *.web in FP cash, now open FP
and re-import the files or subwebs,( You probably should recalculate the
links using the function in FP.) check to see if all the links are ok using
the Hyperlink report. then try to publish again.

I am not sure if this will work but its an idea based on test that I
suggested you do with large file transfer. and like Thomas said in his post,
Publish the rootweb and subwebs independent of each other is some times your
only option.

1. What happen if your open the subweb locally and publish it by itself?

2. What is the content type of this subweb, htm, doc, pdf, gif or jpg, etc.

I believe I fixed the problem. I know how I fixed it, but I don't know what the cause of the problem was.

There were a few html files (no apparent difference between them and the others at that subweb) which were simply not published to the local HD. When I published them individually, the automated process then proceeded for the next subweb.

Just one of these things...
