I am publishing a fp web from a remote server to my local HD, and I have IIS
installed. The remote web has a root web and subwebs. When the root web has
been published to my local HD and publishing of the first subweb begins, I
get this error message:

Server error: unable to create disk-based web at "..." because its parent
web would not be a disk based web. Create the disk-based web elsewhere,
outside of your web server's document hierarchy.

I am reluctant to create the web outside the server's document hierarchy,
because I assume I would lose server functions such as FrontPage Run-Time
Components.

How do I fix this problem?

Thank you,

Clem.

How are you publishing the subweb to your HD?
Don't include them when you publish the root. Publish them individually and
see what happens. That should work.

Thomas:

I manually created the subwebs on the local HD, then published the remote
web + subwebs to the local HD, and that is working just fine.

Odd, though, that I did not have to do that when I previously published the
web to a local directory outside the server's hierarchy. When I did that,
fp03 created the subwebs automatically...

Thanks,

Clem.

If you are work under IIS, then you should always access the webs via http://localhost and the not
the physical disk location.

That is how I created the subwebs, i.e. from within fp03, where it showed
the local host address rather than the path to the root directory displayed
in filemanager.

Ok, then make sure that you always open http://localhost via FP or the browser and that you always
publish to/from http://localhost, forget that you have a filemanage or Windows Explorer when it
comes to the folders holding your web content.

You do have IIS and the extensions installed and configured?

You do have IIS and World Wide Web Publishing services running?
