Server not configured for transactions

I have two W2k pro computers connected via a hub. I have had sporadic
communication between them. I had one (Unit2) able to see itself and Unit1.
Unit1 could only see itself, regardless Unit2 was able to pull files from
Unit1. I left them for about an hour, when I came back Unit1 was giving me
"The server is not configured for transactions" what does this mean and how
is it fixed.
Thanks

Use "net share" command on the shared computer to check share status. If there is not a share named "IPC$" in the share list, use "net share ipc$" command to create it.

Thanks Robert, Well I tried that and verified IPC$ in the "net share" list
but I still get the same thing. Then when I go back to "net share" IPC$ is
no longer in the list. Maybe I just need to back to the begining. Is there
any thing that gives step-by-step instructions or lists all necessary
settings for making two W2k pro machines communicate? I've tried a # of the
ones I found suggested here but I haven't been able to pull out the info I
seem to need. Thanks again.
