server not configured for transactions

i have two servers set up on a workgroup. neither of them is a domain
controller, each of them have static ip addresses. i have checked to confirm
that the subnet masks and default gateways match..and they do. but here is
my problem: in network places, Server1 can "see" Server2 but if you try and
explore Server2 via Server1, it gives an error that says "Server2 not
accessible, network name not found." Also, on Server2, if you even try and
open the "computers near me" icon in network places, it throws an error that
says "WORKGROUP is not accessible. Server is not configured for
transactions"...what do i do?

thank you for replying and sending me that valuable link. it did not solve
the problem, however, it did show me that on both servers, the only shares
coming up on the net share command is "c" (not c$) which is just another
share that was created manually. none of the administrative shares show up
at all, and i cant get to them using the run command either. However, i have
run ad-aware and cleaned up both systems for malicious software and ran
antivirus software. i was skeptical doing both of these because these are
new systems and only have an os, ad-aware, and our database program without
any contact records in it at all...there is virtually no data/programs on
these systems to be malicious, and the only places they have been on the
internet is microsofts updates page....so i am still searching for a solution.

Hi I also suffered with this but somehow i found the problem.
Its definitley a virus whihc you have to find out. open task manage
and go to process tab and check for csrss386.exe
see there will be a csrss.exe that is a original file. If you fin
csrss386.exe end process and search for this file in your hard driv
and remove it. restart your system and enjoy.
If you dont find csrss386.exe then go to winnt/system32 folder and che
for the .exe files and their modification date. if any .exe file'
modification date is near to your problem started date then chekc tha
if this .exe file is running in the process tab of task manager. if it
running then end process and open cmd prompt and type net share ipc$ an
after 30 sec check again by typing net share in cmd prompt whether ipc
is there are not, if its there it means you have found the problem an
delete that .exe file, like this you can check your system
