Server 2000 crash with SP4 install

Adam

Was running windows update for someone last night.
Domain controller and Exchange server (2000) -- never
been updated (in like 2 years). I was running sp4 update
through terminal services. Was almost finished and went
to get coffee. When I returned the session had closed
itself. I went to actually get a look at the server.
Apparently rebooted itself (not a virus as I had that
problem licked already). It is getting to the end of the
colored Starting Windows 2000 Server screen and
rebooting. Stuck in loop. Recovery console ends up in
stop error. Last known good configuration and safe mode
goes back to reboot loop. All drives tested OK using
compaq array diagnostics (this server is a ProLiant
ML370). Anybody had this particular issue? Kind of in a
tight spot considering they walk in the door in 1 hour.
Thank--Adam

You may be bugchecking. First turn off ASR in your Compaq BIOS. If you get
a blue screen, write down the stop code and parameters.

Since you've been applying SP4, you might want to roll it back (in recovery
console, navigate to the appropriate $ntuninstall$ and go into the spuninst
folder. It should contain an spuninst.bat file that you can run by typing
"BATCH SPUNINST.BAT".

If you're getting a bluescreen at it's a STOP 7B (0x0000007B) then you may
be looking at problem with your mass storage device drivers.
