sent messages disappearing automatically but not in .pst archive?

My oldest sent messages are disappearing from the sent folder. I have looked
for them in the archive .pst file but that file is empty. What is happening
and can I recover my old messages?

Do you have a particular View set?

If the Archive is totally empty, then you are not Archiving (Unless your
archive settings point to a different archive file)

Have you filtered your view in any way? You don't mention which version of
Outlook you're using, but try View > Current View. If it's anything other
than Messages, that would be the culprit.
