SendTo reg key help needed - XP Pro

Joe727

Hi - need a bit of help getting my right click SendTo folder working
correctly again. I am running XP Pro SP1. I backed up my SendTo folder to
another hard drive, and for some reason the Windows SendTo registry key
pointed to that backed up folder.

I changed the registry key to point to my drive where XP is loaded.
However, I can't get all the SendTo options such as "Send To Desktop as a
Shortcut" to appear when I right click.

I believe I pinpointed the problem, but I have no idea how to correct it.
In the HKCurrent User, User Shell Folders, the SendTo registry key on
the right side of the screen has REG_SZ instead of REG_EXPAND_SZ like all
the other entries there.

Question 1 - Can this be causing the problem?

Question 2 - If so, how can I change REG_SZ to REG_EXPAND_SZ?

Thanks
Joe

1) It most likely is the problem, as REG_SZ will not expand '%userprofile%'.

2) Double-click the 'SendTo' value so the Edit String dialog appears. Copy the Value data to the
clipboard. Close the Edit String dialog. Delete the SendTo value. Choose Edit -> New ->
Expandable string value. Name it SendTo. Double-click it to edit & then paste the data you earlier
copied to the clipboard.

Keith - That solved the problem.

Thanks

There always was a problem with sendto desktop. You can download a fix
via Kelly's A-Z area, under "S". I realize this isn't the normal
situation, though.

Hi Joe,

Run these four commands:

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 sendmail.dll
Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32
Go to Start/Run and type in: rundll32 mydocs,PerUserInit
Go to Start/Run and type in: regsrv32 ole32

If no help, see the entry for HKEY_Classes_Root\.DESKLINK
and:

Open notepad, and create a blank text file named 'Desktop (create
shortcut).DESKLINK. Save it in the %userprofile%/sendto folder

Hi Kelly - thanks for posting again. You helped me about a week ago with
those commands. I kept your e-mails. I did re-register those DLLs and
entered the other commands, but still no joy. It was the registry key in my
original post that needed to be re-created.

Thanks again for your help. I've learned a lot about SendTo over the last
week or so.

Just to clarify, when you sent me those commands they corrected the problem.
But, I kept fooling around with the SendTo file and the registry keys for
the SendTo command, and that's how the latest problem cropped up.

Just curious - there was a Keith Miller playing MOHAA on one of the MOHAA
servers yesterday. Thanks again for your help.
