SENDTO menu is wrong - shows USB and CD drives

When trying to send an icon to the Desktop, the SENDTO menu contains only the
CD drive and four USB drives.

It does not contain the 'standard' destinations, and particularly it does
not contain 'Desktop'.

When I execute Start, Run, SENDTO, the display shows the standard
destinations, as it should.

When I try to -use- SENDTO, I get the 'other' menu which contains only the
CD and USB drives.

It appears that SENDTO is using the wrong folder, and I can't find that
incorrect folder. Or, is there some parameter somewhere that controls where
SENDTO looks to find the list of destinations ?

Running sendto on the run command on my pc the
C:\documents and settings\username\sendto folder. Is that the same
for you?

I put 'sendto missing' in google and got some other good hits.

Yes, [START], [RUN], SENTO opens the correct SENDTO folder, which indeed has
the standard destinations. And I can add and delete destinations in that
folder.

=using= SENDTO from Windows Explorer opens an entierly different SENDTO
folder which contains an entirely different list of destinations, i.e. four
USB drives and the CD drive. Searching for that 'different' SENDTO folder
doesn't work, and yes I have hidden/system folders set to be displayed.

Just a thought.....

Do you have a desktop.ini file in your C:\documents and
settings\username\sendto folder?
If so, does it have an entry as such:
"Desktop (create shortcut)[email protected],-21"?
(without the quotes).
If not, add that line to the .ini file and see what happens.

'preciate the response, but none of the other default SendTo folders, i.e.
Administrator, All Users, etc., have a desktop.ini file. All those folders
work, and only contain the destinations "Compressed (zipped) folder",
"Desktop (create shortcut)", "Mail recipient", and "My Documents".

Having chased this issue a bit farther, I found that the affected SendTo
folder is not a system folder, I can't replace it by copying another SendTo
system folder, and using ATTRIB to set the System bit doesn't work either.
Haven't found a way to "repair" a user account to restore the SendTo folder,
and alas, backups for this desktop went in the bit bucket when our server
took a dump last week.
