sending messages

My husband and I both have computers, we're hooked up to a modem/router box
from Verizon. His computer works off of Windows XP and the new one is
Windows Vista Home Premium which I use. With Windows Mail, I can receive
messages which some belong to him, however when I try to send messages I get
an error message of :
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.
I have checked everything out according to help and support - yet I'm still
getting the same message. I wish I could get Outlook Express 6 like my
Husband has on the original computer back. According to the help and suppor
I was to enter the e-mail address as my service provider assigned when we
first connected with them, which means that both e-mails have the same e-mail
address: example:
his is (e-mail address removed) and mine is the same. Could this be causing
the problem and if so what do I do? If not, can I uninstall & reinstall
Windows Mail, which I prefer not to use - would love to be able to use
OUTLOOK EXPRESS again.

I need HELP now, I run my own business and we get all the e-mail through
OUTLOOK......... HELP PLEASE

I'm confused...Are you using Windows Mail, or Outlook?

If you don't wish to receive his email, remove his email account from your
email program.

Outlook Express can't run on Vista.

I apologize not trying to confuse anyone here. All I want is some kind of
help. My Husband and I just got a 2nd computer. This computer I'm on works
on Windows Vista Home Premium and uses Windows Mail. The problem I'm having
is I can receive mail but can't send - I keep getting the following "Error
Message"

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

This new computer is connected to our first computer by a modem/router box
from Verizon by ethernet cables. When I was setting up my Windows Mail it
asked for the user name that we used to sign up with our ISP - which is the
same name on the original computer as well as the password. When I got the
above message in trying to send and e-mail, I checked all the settings,
everything is correct. Is there a soloution to this problem??? Can I
uninstall Windows Mail & reinstall?? Or can I just disable it and use
another e-mail, which I prefer not to do since we have a work from home
business and all of our e-mails go to the Outlook account, which I have also
tried to import some files to Windows Mail and that didn't work. Any help or
direction you can give me will be most helpful. Thanks

Windows Mail is part of Vista and very hard to uninstall without taking the
rest of Vista with it. However, if you start it, click on Tools, then
Accounts,
then the email account, then Remove, then any approvals needed, then Close,
it should no longer be able to download mail even if you start it
accidentally.

Outlook, version 2003 or later will run under Vista, and version 2002 will
run with a few problems. Outlook Express won't run under Vista.

When I open Windows Mail and try and send a new email or reply to one I have
received, the window which opens is foreshortened so that I can only see the
top part and not the area where the message is to be written on. This has
never happened before. How can I restore the full window?

If the two "accounts" are aliases for the same mailbox on the server, any
account that tries to get mail will get all mail currently on the server for
either one.

You only gave us the least significant part of the error message.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

Place the cursor on the edge of the window so that it becomes a double
arrow. Then hold down the left button and drag it to the size you want.

The part of the error message you gave us is next to worthless.
We need to see the part that looks like this:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'hi', Account:
'mail.bellsouth.net', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Right-click on it, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
