Sending email problem in windows mail

John Pribesh

I can receive email on my Comcast connection but I cannot send emails.
Trouble shooting with Comcast indicate that the problem is not with Comcast.
What can I do to fix the problem? Error number is 0x800CCC79. My email
address is (e-mail address removed). incoming POP3 server is mail.comcast.net.
outgoing SMTP is SMTP.comcast.net. My operating system is Vista.

Thanks

You don't need to post your real e-mail address for the world to see, but
you do need to post the error message,'

Please post the error message in its entirety. You can left click on it to
highlight and then right click to copy and then paste it into this thread.

Chances are, there is a problem with your settings in Windows Mail
for that Comcast account, but we can't tell for sure because you did
not submit the complete error message.
Make sure your settings agree with this:
http://www.comcast.com/Customers/FAQ/FaqDetails.ashx?Id=2288

Note that the outgoing server now requires port 587 rather than port 25.
Also, "My server requires authentication" must be checked.
Although those instructions were written for Outlook Express,
Windows Mail uses the same settings.

This is the message that I get while trying to send an e-mail. I can receive
e-mails though.

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was 'xxxxxxxxxxx.com Subject 'test', Account:
'Blanche's E-mail', Server: 'smtp-server.nc.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '452 Outbound mail refused - 66.57.51.29 - See
http://help.rr.com/outboundemail [R0209004]', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 452, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Road Runner suggests that I delete Windows Mail and reinstall it. I don't
want to do that.

Any advice???

See point 3 on this page: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 What they suggested
is you remove your mail account, close and reopen Winmail and then add the
mail account back again with the proper settings. But get rid of any
invasive antivirus or antispyware first.
