Sending a large attachment using Windows Mail

A

Alex McFarlane

Dear Chums,

I have a need to send a large attachment to a colleague. What is the largest
attachment size that Windows Mail can handle?
Is it possible to send it in smaller parts which are combined at the other
end?
Please advise.

Windows Mail can handle any size message. Your server can't. What is the
actual size? Add 35~40% to that for encoding.

Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced. Check: "Break apart
messages........". The recipient will need an e-mail client that has the
option to put it back together.

That should go OK with most ISP's.
Bruce gave you the instructions to break it apart if you wish to go that
way.
I would break that into 500KB parts.

Why not just send it and see if it goes?

If you are trying to send a 5 gigabyte file via email, I suggest you burn it
to a DVD or a jump drive and then put it in the post and snail mail it. You
can send it via email via the method Bruce indicated, but will take a
considerable amount of time and your recipient will not be pleased to have
his / her inbox jammed up with such a file. I expect any mail server wil
reject it as well.
