Send To - Email Recipient Won't Work/Windows Picture & Fax Viewer

G

Hi,

I don't know why I have suddenly lost the option to send my photos
through email from Windows Picture & Fax Viewer as I have always done.
I get to the option for resizing and when I click on OK, nothing happens.

I really need this as I send out many photos to family.

I am using Windows XP and Thunderbird as my email client.

Thank you!

I can't help with this problem...but can report it is happening to me
also: Vista SP1, with Thunderbird as my default client.

This used to work just fine in either launching Thunderbird (if not
running already) or generating a new message with the selected file
attached.

Now:
When I right mouse click and select the "Send to Mail Recipient" option
in the file manager, the following error appears:
"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client
cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office
Outlook and set it as the default mail client".

No...I *don't* want to run Outlook as my default mail client. I want to
continue running Thunderbird as my email client (and having that context
menu selection work as it had in the past).

This seems to have immediately followed the most recent Vista updates
(25 June .NET frameowrk 3.5 service pack AND Internet Explorer 8); I'm
suspecting the Internet Explorer 8 update is the chief culprit.

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Update:
Rolling back the Internet Explorer update to version 7 did not help.

So yeah, suggestions welcomed on how to have right mouse click and
select the "Send to Mail Recipient" recognize a non-Outlook default mail
client...

Is this the help you need?

How to change the default E-mail client.

Replace the "Default" value with the name of the subkey
(email client) that you want to use here:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail]

Then enter the exact same name into the "Default" value
here:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\mail]

To repair the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer,
copy and paste the following lines into the Run box:

regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

Hi,

In Local Machines, Mozilla Thunderbird, was the default. I then went to
the Current User option and fill in Mozilla Thunderbird as the default
using Modify.

It still doesn't work, although I have not rebooted. I can't right now
as I'm scanning and defragging my D drive. As soon as it's finished, I
will report the results.

I used the dll options both before and after adding the default.

Thank you very much!!!

Send To Mail Recipient option does nothing
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/sendtomail.htm

After running the mentioned command, open Start Menu, "Set Program
Access and Defaults", and select Thunderbird as your default email program.

There were two issues in the original post blow (Send to Email Recipient
won't work AND a Windows and Fax Viewer).

My Windows and Fax viewer was --and still is-- running just fine, but
have a lingering issue with "Send to Email Recipient" (from the context
menu).

Original problem:
When I right mouse click and select the "Send to Mail Recipient" option
in the file manager, the following error appears:
"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client
cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office
Outlook and set it as the default mail client".

Currently "Send to Mail Recipient" will launch Outlook.

I still can't get it to recognize Thunderbird as the default (even
though it's set as such both in Thunderbird and via Control Panel
|Internet Options | Set Programs | Set Associations

Send to Mail Recipient used to launch Thunderbird. I'd like it to again.

Suggestions appreciated.

This MIGHT work also for the other's having the error message.

I went to Outlook Express and made it the Default mail. Opened a jpg
and used the Send to/Mail Recepient option. It worked fine. THEN I
went back to Thunderbird and made it my default mail client again.
Tested and it worked fine!!

Hope this helps the others!

Try doing as it says and make Outlook your default client. Test and
send something using the Send to Email Recipient. Then set it back to
Thunderbird. It worked for me.

It's a known bug with the latest version of Thunderbird v2.0.0.22.
You can go here for more info:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499958

If that all doesn't make sense, you can just do this:
Click Start / Run - type "regedit" and click OK.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Clients / Mail / Thunderbird
You should see 2 entries on the right - (Default) and DLLPath
Double-click on DLLPath and copy paste this line into the Value Data
box:

C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla Thunderbird\\mozMapi32.dll

Click OK and then click the X to close the registry editor. As long
as Thunderbird is still set as your default email program, it should
work now. I had the some issue and this was the only thing that
worked for me.

I actually fixed it by making Outlook Default and then making
Thunderbird default again. I guess it makes that entry in the registry.
At least I know what happened! Thanks for posting as I know it will
help others too.
