Send email through Cable Modem

M

Miller Baird

I recently connected to the internet via a cable modem
provided by my cable provider, Comcast. I am able to send
email messages through my ISP Earthlink, however, using
Comcast Mail Server I cannot send messages, in fact, the
Send option is no longer available when I compose a new
email.

Thanks

It would appear that you do not have your mail program set up right
for your cable modem. Contact your cable company for proper
instructions

You will need to set up authentication on the comcast account as Earthlink
will block any mail not sent through their server to prevent spam (or at
least reduce it.)

You got a cable modem from Comcast. You are paying Comcast so much a
month for this broadband service. So who do you think is now your ISP
(Internet Service Provider)? Comcast! So configure your e-mail
accounts to connect to Comcast's servers.

You can throw more money away if you wish by retaining a secondary ISP,
like Earthlink. Perhaps you travel and want a national dial-up provider
that you can use when you are NOT connected to your cable connection
(which presumes your computer is a laptop so it is portable). When you
travel, you will need to use your modem to dial into Earthlink and you
will need to use e-mail accounts in which Earthlink is defined as the
mail provider. When you are home and on the broadband connection then
you will have to use e-mail accounts in which Comcast is defined as the
mail provider. In this case, you probably want to define 2 mail
profiles, one for home and on broadband that has e-mail accounts using
Comcast, and another for travelling to use dial-up via modem using
e-mail accounts using Earthlink.
