Have not loaded SP2 because of all the horror stories...downloaded
KB889669-windowsxp-ia64-
ENU.exe but when i tried to extract files got the message
"IE6.0SP1-KB889669-windowsxp-ia64-
ENU.exe" is not a valid win32 application....what does this mean and why can
i not extrat the files???? thanks for any help

That is a patch for the 64 bit version of Windows, you most likely have 32
bit version.

Most of the "horror stories" are related to computers with pre-existing
problems such as spyware, viruses etc.
