Security updates after mainstream support ends?

Hello,

I was wondering if critical security updates for Windows 2000 would be
freely available when mainstream support for it ends on June 30th. I am not
sure if 'mainstream support' implies just assistance, or if it includes
security updates as well. I am trying to decide if I should spend on an
upgrade to Server 2003 and XP, or stick with 2000 for a while longer.

If critical updates will be available, would the 'Moderate' and 'Important'
updates be available as well?

Thanks!

I am not sure about moderate but according to the link below from Microsoft
the current news is that security hotfixes will be provided free through
March 2007. Someone from MS may elaborate more.

That applies to all security hot fixes, regardless of the threat
classification. Low, Moderate, Critical, doesn't matter, if it is
security related, it will be free.
