Security Update for Windows XP (KB927779)

I installed the critical update listed below numerous times but my system
still says it needs to installed. For some reason, it is not taking effect
or installing correctly. I'm not getting any error messages, in fact, it
says it has successfully be installed. I've not been able to find a cause
for this problem and hope someone out there can help me out! Ideas anyone,
anyone?

Go into Add/Remove check "Show Updates" uninstall XP KB927779, reboot and
install it again, reboot if prompt.

It works for a couple other updates that are repeatedly reoffered. It's
worth a shot.

When I tried to un-install it, it showed a message and listed a lot of
software that "might not work properly" if KB927779 is un-installed. That
scared me so I didn't un-install it.

KB927978 gives the same message when you uninstall it. But, when your
rebooting and reinstalling the same Update that you uninstalled... those
programs that use it will not miss it. You can save KB927779 to your Desktop
if you think your not going to be able to access the Internet again until you
get it installed.
