i obviously don't have ntfs (and i don't want to reformat
my computer) because i don't have these security tabs, and
I don't have any check box for simple file sharing. how on
earth can i password protect individual folders???? this
is really frustrating. it was really easy with other
versions of windows. please can someone help. thank you.

Heather;
It may have seemed easy with other versions, but you were not
protected.
Cancel is all that had to be pressed to bypass what little security
Windows 9x had.

If you want security, you need to convert to NTFS.

You password your profile.
Also you need to be using NTFS and not FAT32 file system.
To check:
Open My Computer, Right click C drive, click Properties.
What does it say by "File System"?

Data should be safe, back-up important data just in case.
