Security Logon

I am running Windows XP Pro and I have set up a wireless local network for
my home/office. The network is recognizing all the computers. Now for the
security; how do I require each computer to logon to the local network by
using a user name and password? Thanks for your help.

The only way to log on the way you want is to set up a domain. For that
you will need to have a real server operating system installed on one
of the computers.

Perhaps you could give us a description of your home/office and what you
would like to accomplish by requiring a logon.

Linda,

Disable Simple File Sharing, and use a common, non-Guest account on each
computer.

Since I use the computers for wireless internet I thought it would make the
information on my computer more secure from hackers to require a logon.
Other than that issue a logon is really not necessary. Am I right in this
assumption?

Hackers and wardrivers are a significant problem today. Besides the links that
Malke provided, have a look at WiFi Security:

And look at Layered Security in general:

You do not want to be providing service to folks like Walter Nowakowski.
