Logon failure: user not granted requested logon type

Hello. I'm using a MS Workgroup which works ok but I can't access a computer
running XP Pro (2002 SP2) from the network. I get the message 'computer is
not accessible...Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested
logon type at this computer'. [The MS Knowledge Base has an article about
this relating to XP Home but it is not relevant to XP Pro.]

So I go to 'Local Security Settings/Access this computer from the network'
and try to add one of the computers in the network by name. That works until
I click Apply. After a warning dialog box I get the Security Templates
message 'Failed to save Local Policy Database'.

Is this the right way to enable access from the network and if so how can I
complete the task?

Typically you add user accounts to the list "Access this computer from the
network", and most typically, you simply add "Everyone". You don't typically
add other computer names. You also need to make sure that the account names,
that you need to use, are NOT in a second list "Deny access to this computer
from the network".
