security centre off-not available

my security centre is not available but even if i go to "services msc", there
is no security centre folder or icon so I can't enable as suggested for other
problems

Start > Control Panel > Security Center.

thanks Kelly-but not that simple. The security centre is in control panel,
but there is an error message saying it is unavailable or turned off. There
are a number of other queries with the same prob from other users here. The
message about "change the way the security centre alerts me" is not active
and the icons showing Firewall, Auto Updates and Virus Protection-"ON" are
missing.

Hi Alan

Got your message about having the same problem as me.
I've just been to page four and found a way to activate my security center,
go to start > run > type > services.msc.
this brought up the hole list of things running and I seen that the security
center was disabled. You can double click and open the box and set it to
automatic start. ( what I've done) Hope you get fixed!!
