I recently installed SP2. I already have Norton Personal
Firewall and Norton AntiVirus CE. I have one issue and
two questions:

When Word starts this new security center window opens and
reports Norton is installed but "status unknown." I have
a current subscription and the file definitions are up to
date, but the system still reports unknown status.

Should I simply elect turn off this feature or is there a
fix?

If I already have Norton Personal Fire Wall, is there any
reason to leave the Windows Fire Wall on as well?

Go to the Symantec site and download the update.
This is a known problem with Norton AV. Note that
you still have AV protection, just XP can't tell it.

reason to leave the Windows Fire Wall on as well?

No, you only need one, and Norton has more features than the
XP firewall.
