Here is my system:
Dell Optiplex GX100, 700 MHz Celeron, 320 Ram, 64 MB Geforce 2, SB Live
soundcard, XP Pro SP2, Cable internet

My problem:
I am using the latest version of Zonealarm basic. Anytime I log off of the
machine and come back later and logon security center reports that basically
my firewall is not on, when in fact it is. If I reboot everything is fine,
but just logging off and back on produces this annoyance. Is there any way
to fix this short of telling security center that I have a firewall solution
I will monitor myself? I can take that route but I'd rather not. Any help
is appreciated. TIA

Why don't you want to turn off the Security Center alerts for the
firewall? You know you have ZA - you don't need Security Center to
monitor it for you. Security Center isn't saying that ZoneAlarm isn't
on; it's saying that the Windows Firewall isn't on, which is exactly
what you want. You don't want the WF to run since you have ZA. The only
way to change the annoyance is to tell Security Center not to alert you
about the firewall.

Make sure Zone Alarm is installed for "all users" and not just any one
particular profile. Also - the next time you log off and on again and
receive that warning, open services and see if the True Vector service
is set to automatic and is running.

If you *mean* the latest version of ZA (5.5.062), which only came out
this week, then it ought to be telling Security Center that it is alive
and well. At least one fairly recent version did not.

I don't want to turn it off, because in my opinion this points to something
being wrong with either security center, zonealarm or something else. And
yes I know my firewall is running, but I prefer to still have security
center activated, can and will deactivate it if necessary though. No,
security center does not tell me that windows firewall isn't on it tells me
that zonealarm isn't on, but only if i log off and back on. If I reboot,
everything is peachy. I read the balloon tip that popped up when I logged on
and it does NOT mention windows firewall, rather it specifically mentions
zonealarm.

It is installed for all users, works on any user profile, and the True
Vector service is set to start automatically and the firewall still works
after receiving this warning it's just an annoyance. Could this possibly be
a problem with the 5.5.062 version not being able to handle a log off and
log on? This never happened before I updated ZA like it bugged me forever to
do.

Yes this is the version that I have. It reports itself to SC just fine if I
don't log off and back on. But I can reproduce this practically every time I
log off and back on. This does happen on more than 1 profile. I have 3 on my
machine including the built-in admin.
