Secure file storage and sharing in own webspace?

Season's greetings,

I'd like to securely store a few files in my personal webspace. These
files must be accessible to my friends only through HTTP. All others
should be locked out. Do you know whether there is any free software for
this?

Maybe set up a GMail account and use "GMail Drive". It works just like any
other drive.

It's perfect for sharing files smaller than 10mb. I think you get like 100mb
of storage or something. You must zip up EXE files, because GMail does not
allow them.
