Second hard drive

I want install second hard drive, existing is 80MB. Is there some advantages
of internal hard drive against external USB hard drive?
How to format and set partitions for 2nd hard drive? How many partitions for
120MB drive? This drive will not contain operating system.

Regards.

Hi Luminore,

Advantages to internal:
1. Doesn't clutter your desktop.
2. Faster
3. Cheaper

Advantages to external:
1. Doesn't require hardly any computer knowledge to install
2. Portable (take it offsite for data safety and use in other computers)

Others may offer more advantages (and/or disadvantages)

You can partition the drive any way you choose, however it best makes
sense to you. If it's for data, I would use all 120 gig rather than
create smaller partitions.

BootIT NG (http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/ ) has a 30 day trial
period. You can format and partition your new drive easily. You can
also use Windows Disk Managagement (Start, Run, diskmgmt.msc) and format
it from there.

Also consider another drive purchase in the future for backups.

I only plug in my USB drives when I need them as the cooling in the
external units is not always the best and can limit drive longevity.

It won't walk away when you aren't looking? It doesn't need a seperate
power supply?

One partition is fine.

What is the purpose of the second drive - data storage, backups? Backups
should be stored on external media. If it's for data that needs to be
shared with different computers not on a network then an external drive is
one solution. If it's for data storage for that computer only, then go with
an internal drive.

As to how many partitions, that again depends on what you want to use it
for.

Yes, second drive for data. Also, it is recommended install applications
that require many hard drive space(like Adobe products)on another volume
than operating system installed.

Thanks,
Luminore
