Searching for Private DX

Just a pure curiosity question.

I definitely, definitely have DX9 installed on my computer, and I can access
DXDiag using "Run", but I can't find the location for either program on my
computer. Windows desktop search produces the "little dx files" (dnp, ini, etc)
and that's all. When I go to Program Files/ Windows/System 32 (default
location),there's a Direct X folder that contains just one folder labeled
"Dinput" which contains only a large number of "png" and "ini" files, but no
DirectX or DXDiag icon.

(I wanted to shortcut DXDiag on my desktop, which started my search and gave
rise to this question).

I should mention that I have the two related folders boxes in the program
folders/view options correctly set to show hidden files & folders, and not
hide operating system files.

Where are my DX and DXDiag.exe icons hidding, I wonder? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any enlightenment provided.

Hello,

if I have understood correctly,
C:\windows\system32\dxdiag.exe
is the path you need.

Hope this helps.

It is here in my system:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dxdiag.exe

Just an anomoly on my computer. It's not there in an .exe form. It's not in
the system 32 Directx folder. No problem. I just can't figure out why I
can't find it--nor can my desktop search find it.

It is not in my system32 folder in a recognizable form I.E. Does not have
'.exe' However when I click start---run and type in dxdiag it runs.

Hello,

maybe a stupid thought - but have you hidden the extensions for known file
types (Explorer window -> Tools -> Folder options -> View -> uncheck "Hide
extensions for known file types"?

No! All extensions show except that one. Wish I knew why.
